How To Unlock The Erudition Gesture
Where To Perform The Erudition Gesture
Gestures in Elden Ring, such as the Erudition Gesture, may seem to only be useful as a form of communication with other players in PvP mode. However, they serve much more functionality while exploring the landscape and even the DLC region, the Land of Shadow.
Erudition, in particular, can be obtained by completing a questline for an NPC and can also be used to solve two secret puzzles in the Lands Between. By obtaining the Erudition Gesture, which requires traversing the many rooftops of Raya Lucaria Academy in Liurnia of the Lakes , players will later have access to some great rewards if they use this Gesture in two locations in Elden Ring.

How To Unlock The Erudition Gesture
Complete Sorcerer Thops' Questline
The Erudition Gesture can only be acquired as a reward for completing a questline for Sorcerer Thops , in which players must retrieve an item for him in exchange for the Gesture. You can find Sorcerer Thops gloomily sitting on a stone bench in the Church of Irith in Limgrave . The church can be found just outside Stormveil Castle in Elden Ring, located near the 'Lakeside-Facing Cliffs' Site of Grace.
DiamondLobby demonstrates that upon speaking to Sorcerer Thops, he reveals his desperation to get back into Raya Lucaria Academy, but requires an Academy Glintstone Key . Players may have already picked up a Glintstone Key, west of the south-facing Academy Gates, and used it to enter the Academy, but Thops will not accept your offering of this key.
Fortunately, another identical key is located in Raya Lucaria Academy, hidden at the end of a tower puzzle. Players must go there to retrieve it and return it to Thops.
How To Get The Second Glintstone Key
After fast-traveling to Raya Lucaria Academy, you can get to the Second Glintstone Key's location by confronting and fighting the Red Wolf of Radagon , in the Debate Parlor.
This tough boss requires adequate preparation, so make sure you're ready for its formidable Sorceries, devastating bite attacks, and swift swings of its large magical blade. Fortunately, the Red Wolf of Radagon in Elden Ring can be parried and is weak against Slash attacks, Hemorrhage (Blood), and Poison -based damage.
From the now-active 'Debate Parlor' Site of Grace, exit to the gardens outside. Ascend the crumbling staircase to the west and bypass, or take down the enemies along the way for some extra Runes. Jump over the railing, heading to the left of the door, which functions as a shortcut to where Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon resides.
You will find a Glintstone Sorcerer behind you, so make sure to defeat them and open the shortcut door, allowing you to easily return later. Go westward to the top of the stairs, past another sorcerer in Elden Ring, until you find another railing you must jump over, bringing you to the rooftops.
Continue past the Marionettes stationed here until you come to a ladder that you must climb up, leading to a bridge above. Be cautious, as a Glintstone Sorcerer who uses the Shard Spiral spell, more Marrionettes will be waiting, ready to ambush you.
While you can swiftly sprint past them, it's best to dispatch these ranged enemies, as they can strike you as you ascend the ladder. Moreover, you will also find a Golden Rune [4] for the taking along the way.
At the top, once you have passed the sorcerer, circle the building until you're facing west before jumping to the rooftops below. Continue descending your way down, defeating the next Marionette below, and jump off the west-facing ledge.
Round the corner, you will find a semicircular rooftop patrolled by even more Marionettes, which you must go towards by jumping onto it. It's also recommended to defeat these enemies to prevent them from attacking you during the next set of directions.
You will find an arched window beside you in the building that you must enter to clamber on the rafters. Once inside, you will see a corpse in the distance on one of the furthest beams you can navigate towards for an important item in Elden Ring. The second Glintstone Key, on the other hand, is on the southernmost side of the room, on the first chandelier.
To get there, carefully position yourself on the eastern side of the first rafter you stand on. Cautiously drop down to find the Glinstone Key below, which you can pick up. To later use the Gesture acquired from Thops, make sure to also pick up the Twinsage Glintstone Crown while exploring the academy, which is found near the 'Church of the Cuckoo' Site of Grace.
Return To Sorcerer Thops
With the Glintstone Key in your hand, you can now return to Sorcerer Thops back in the Church of Irith as you left him. When you return, exhaust his dialogue until he mentions the key again, giving you the option to hand it to him. Continue through his dialogue again until he rewards you with the Erudition Gesture, allowing you to perform it to reveal secrets you'll likely miss in Elden Ring.
Where To Perform The Erudition Gesture
How To Perform Gestures
Upon acquiring the Erudition Gesture in Elden Ring, players must perform it in a specific location to unveil its secrets. All gestures can be performed by opening up the main menu, where you will find the 'Gestures' section under 'Pouch ,' located on the right side of your screen. You can have up to six Gestures at a time and even test a Gesture before selecting it to see if you like how it performs.
Navigating to the slots on the bottom right side, use the action button to select 'Erudition.' If you're playing on PlayStation and Xbox, this will be associated with the directional movement of your controller. To select Erudition, you can confirm with 'E' on PC, 'X' on PlayStation, and 'A' on Xbox.
If you don't have Erudition in one of your primary slots, you must switch it out with one of your current ones. To switch to the Erudition Gesture, hover over one of the options you'd like to replace, and press 'F' on PC, 'Triangle' on PlayStation, or 'Y' on Xbox.
Perform The Erudition Gesture For Two Puzzles
Now that you have the Erudition Gesture, you can use it to solve two puzzles by performing them in particular areas. First, head to the Converted Tower, located in the southwest region of Liurnia of the Lakes. On the ground level of the tower, perform the Gesture in front of the large statue.
Behind the statue, the door sealed by the barrier will disappear, allowing you to enter the initially locked-out area. Inside, you will be able to ascend to the top of the tower and find a chest containing a Memory Stone , which increases your memory slots for Sorceries or Incantations, perfect for a Mage or Faith player.
Next, you can perform the same Gesture at the Converted Fringe Tower , located in the northeasternmost part of Liurnia of the Lakes. Similarly, enter the tower and perform Erudition before the statue to solve the puzzle.
Players must be wearing the Twinsage Glinststone Crown in Elden Ring for the Gesture to solve this particular puzzle. Alternatively, you can also use any other Glintstone Crown found at Raya Lucaria Academy. While performing the Gesture, the top of your crown will glow.
Again, after performing the Erudition Gesture, the barrier of the sealed door in the Converted Fringe Tower will vanish, allowing players to traverse to the top and open a chest. Inside, you will find two Sorceries in Elden Ring, Cannon of Haima and Gavel of Haima .
